Going Deep

Everything begins with knowing where we come from. Since the summer of 2019 we have carried out fieldwork across the Japanese archipelago, using methods of our own to test the memories that places still hold.

From Separation to Inseparability

Myth, history, folklore, archaeology and belief are usually told apart from one another. We bring them together, and in doing so we look at the many roots from which Japan, our home country, grew.

Giving It Form

We turn what we learn into books, photographs, travel programmes and design, so that anyone can retrace the journey for themselves. To rethink each person’s roots through the history of a people gives us firm ground for thinking about Japan’s future, and we believe it is also a way to carry Japan out into the world.
